Official League Baseball autographed by Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig (New York Yankees star)
Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig autographed baseball. Signed on a “Harwood Official League” ball that Ruth hit foul into the stands during a 1932 exhibition game played at Russwood Park in Memphis, Tennessee. The ball was retrieved by a twelve-year-old boy, Marion Loughridge, who waited for the Babe and Lou after the game when he successfully got them both to sign it. Loughridge then added “1932” to the leather, thus accounting for all of the writing present. Loughridge passed away in 2005, and this ball with its popular story and provenance has remained in the family until our recent purchase of it from his daughter, who has documented its origins in a notarized letter. The Ruth signature sits appropriately on the SS and we rate its strength at 7/7-. The Gehrig accompanies on the East panel and rates a bit stronger at an 8/8-. Both signatures may be displayed simultaneously
